Regatta

The Regatta is a camp, of sorts, for Guides 14-30 in NSW.
The important thing about this camp is that over the weekend there are a series of water events.
Like rowing, canoeing and kayaking.
The Regatta is held in March each year.
This year we got an encouragement award (because we had such a low score) and I won my kayak race.
But most importantly, we had heaps of fun.

Moot

The moot is held at the beginning of December each year.
Another state camp for girls aged 14-18, this camp usually invovles landbased activities, often involving intiative skills.
Last year the Ranger units ran events for the younger girls (Ranger Guides).
We ran an activity where the girls had to 'walk' an A-frame a certain distance. The most interesting bit was getting the frame home on the roof of the car. We weren't game to use occy straps (bungy cord), so we square-lashed it to the roof-racks.

Koninderie

Koninderie was a nationwide camp held at Stanwell Tops in January 1998.
400 Guides aged between 14-30 welcomed in the New Year with a party and skydivers.
The camp lasted for ten days. For four days we went on expeditions, from tall ship sailing, to visiting wineries in the Hunter Valley, to canoeing on the Shoalhaven River. Other, activities included a day spent exploring Sydney, trips to Australia's Wonderland, swimming, crafts, face painting and fairy floss.
Guides from England, the USA, Singapore and the Philippines also attended.

Dinner Party

For our Christmas party last year, the Ranger unit organised a formal dinner party for ourselves and Mangerton Ranger Guides.
We made just about everything ourselves. From the pesto sauce and fettucine, to the dinner rolls. And surprisingly, it actually tasted rather nice.
We also made table decorations, place cards, menus and small gifts for our guests.

Tingira

Tingira is the state water activities base.
Each year we do two days of service there, helping the units using the facilities.
This year, our duty was in May, with Mangerton Ranger Guides. While we were there, a scout unit was there.
We found time to take some kayaks and canoes out for a spin, and Lesley went on the ski biscuit.
While we were paddling our canoe, Sally and I caught a jelly blubber, but noone was willing to eat it for lunch
Instead, we had chips, potato scallops and greek salad from the local charcoal chicken shop. Delicious!

Painting

Due to a very serious storm in August last year, the Ranger Den at our local campsite was flooded, and hence retiled.
The Ranger Den is accommodation at the campsite, which was initially built for use of the Rangers (though other units use it).
Ark Royal and
Mangerton were asked to repaint the interior.
It's amazing how much fun you can have painting, and how much paint you can get on the tiles.
We haven't finished painting. We still have to finish the undercoat, but that will have to wait until uni exams have finished.
