Endangered Animals of the World
"The purpose of this project is to allow students from all over the world a chance to help foster knowledge and appreciation for the plight of the many thousands of endangered animals of the Earth. This National Marine Fisheries Service's site has information and activities on threatened and endangered marine species, ways that kids can get involved in conservation efforts, an educators' guide and links to a multitude of other sites for kids and teachers.

NOAA - Sustainable Seas Expeditions
Along with daily mission logs, the SSE Web site offers a calendar of scheduled Web chats and Student Summits, facts about the research investigations and the innovative technology used, detailed maps and a photo gallery of the habitats and the inhabitants unique to each site, and a special education section.

Planet Ark
The Planet Ark site hosts a daily 'World Environment News' service from the Reuters News Agency. It also has nearly 6,000 environmental news stories that kids and teachers can search by topic and offers a daily environmental news e-mail service.

School World Internet Education
The SchoolWorld Endangered Species Project is designed so that member schools are able to display the reports of students participating in the project. While not designed as a research site, SchoolWorld does ask that students take care in their research and the accuracy of their information.

Care for the Wild

Many schools support CFTWI through adopting one of our animals. Children's fundraising efforts are welcomed (with the involvement of an adult of course) and all fundraising efforts are acknowledged with individual fundraising certificates.


Fundraising ideas

Some won't make much money but will take minimal effort and might be lots of fun. Here are a few painless ways to raise funds.

Badges, caps and t-shirts can often be sourced for a fraction of their resale cost and in quantity produce valuable revenue.

Car boot sale. A down market fete if you like. Charge for pitches on the school play ground. Run in conjunction with a fete to get more people in.

Fetes. A major revenue generator. Ask parents to donate time and goods, run raffles, possibly involve commercial elements such as Bouncey Castles and Rides.

Auction of Promises. Try to get people to donate a promise of their time, use of their belongings, or to donate a gift. You can even ask people to donate themselves and auction them as 'slaves for the day'

Bring a pound to school/work. Simply ask all your colleagues/class mates to bring just a pound to work/school in aid of the charity.

Cricket Match Have a knockout contest and charge people to join a team. Charge admission to all your spectators and sell refreshments

Dinner dance Have a good band and good food and charge a good price. Organise a raffle and/or an auction

Expert Seminar. Use an expert or well known personality who is prepared to donate their time to give a talk or performance. Charge admission, have a break to sell refreshments and an auction of a signed book or autograph.

Gladiators. Have a school fun day and charge student/teachers teams to take part in a competition Gladiator-style knockout league.

Halloween Ball. Sell tickets to a fancy dress Halloween Ball.

Just a Minute. Have a sponsored game show with - no repeating, hesitating or deviating.

Karaoke Evening. Ask a local pub/or use the school hall to host one and charge people to get in or to take part.

Lunch Money. Ask all your friends to bring in sandwiches for their lunch and donate the money saved to the charity.

Masked Ball. Everybody wears a mask of their choice. Have a competition to guess who's who.

Night in for the charity. Stay in for an evening and donate the money saved to the charity

Publicity. Send a press release to all your local papers asking for sponsorship from the charitable event that you are arranging.

Quiz Night. Challenge different departments or classes to a friendly quiz, with prizes for the best team, most inventive answer, wooden spoon etc.

Sponsored Event. Swim, slim, walk - ask your colleagues and friends to raise sponsorship money for you in a fun way.

Treasure Hunt. A challenging and fun way to raise big money. Leave clue in places around the chosen game area, have a nominal prize and donate the entry money.

Theatre/Show. Round up your talented friends and tread the boards, charging for admission of course.

Theme Party. Themed evening with fundraising top of the menu of course.

University Challenge. Collect together teams of teachers who attended universities in particular counties/areas and hold a challenge to see which team comes top.

Your own Lottery. Works exactly the same way as the National Lottery only you have a better chance of winning!
