The Confederacy numbers several thousand systems; some 6,000 systems started the secession movement shortly after Lord Sidious took office (Labyrinth of Evil) and it continued to grow; Lord Tyrannus expected another 10,000 to join after they announced the treaties with the corporate giants (Attack of the Clones), and it continued to grow after the battle of Geonosis (Clone Wars Chapter 1). It is unknown is this referred to total systems of only member systems of the Republic, though the latter is more likely; colonies and outposts are arrogantly ignored when describing the state of galactic affairs (A New Hope). Further, colonies and outposts are less likely to be self-sufficient and thus would benefit from galactic union and resist secession instead of choosing it. By the time of the end of the Clone Wars the Confederacy was still supported by hundreds of independent sectors, (Revenge of the Sith Incredible Cross Sections) despite having withdrawn back to the Outer Rim Territories. (Labyrinth of Evil) Treating the Chommell Sector as an average representation of the makeup of a sector (Attack of the Clones Incredible Cross Sections) this would correspond to over 8 million systems. |
