Susan B. Ganong Theatre

In 1997, coupled with the many new changes that Headmaster Paul Kitchen had already made to Rothesay Netherwood School, the Susan B. Ganong Theatre was constructed in 1997, as a state of the art Performing Art Center for the school and local area residents.  The theatre was named in honour, after Susan B. Ganong, a former Headmistress of Netherwood School for Girls.

The theatre, which is located in School House, seats 200 people and features a 1000 square foot stage, a proscenium, wings and stairs leading down to change rooms below.  The projection booth is equipped with state of the art lighting and sound equipment, as well as a video projection unit capable of transmitting information from a VCR or computer onto a full-size screen.  It has hosted many local plays including Endgame, many in-house productions such as R.N.S.’s many plays, musicals, dinner theatres, bands and choirs.  The theatre has added to the life of students at RNS and also in the surrounding community.  The theatre has also been used to host many local meetings, and has been used in conjunction with soccer, rugby and other sporting events.

The theatre is very well adapted for a play like Endgame, as it is simple yet functional.  The seating accommodations are just right for the expected crowd for the production and the lighting and sound booth is exceptionally adequate for the simple sound and light affects used in Endgame.  With the smaller size of the theatre it lends itself to a closer and more intimate atmosphere felt while watching the play.  Overall the theatre with its rich history of the school and local area is teamed nicely with the popularity and oddity that Endgame possesses.
