He has always lived in Kiev, where he was born on 29 September 1967, and recently signed from Dinamo Kiev on a five-year contract that ties him to Milan until 2004.This year he won his fifth successive Ukranian championship, and his third national cup, as well as being the country`s leading scorer with 18 goals in 26 games; he leaves behind a record of 60 goals in 117 games. his mentor is Valeri Lobonovski, the Colonel, who coached the USSR in Italia`90.

Shevchenko made his name scoring a hat trick in the Nou Camp against Barcelona, in fall 1997.Last season he was top marksman in the Champions League with 11 goals(including those scored in the qualifying rounds), and took Dinamo to a semi-final with Bayern Munich which ended in defeat.He is the star of the Ukraine team, have mading his international debut in the 4-0 win in Croatia in March 1995.

He has been standing Italian classes and is followed everywhere by his agent/Interpreter Rezo Choconelidze, formerly a football coach in Moscow, who himself boasts  a glorious past as a player (over 400 appearance in Serie A). He will help Andriy with the task of setting  into his new life.

Shevchenko has already attracted comprasions with the great  Oleg Blokhin, but he names Batistuta,Cruyff and Van Basten as his heroes. He is single and his hobbies are ice hockey, fishing, tennis and reading.
