"Make every day a celebration to Earth and yourself by keeping in your mind and heart that Earth is like you."

Defending Mother Earth
no compromise!

19 February 2007

So much time as passed by? I can't believe it!

Well, here we go again. I thought that maybe I would need a some sort of "program" to help me progress on my path, day by day. I feel like I'm heading, but everywhere at the same time. That's not really good. So, I made a program this last week, and I will try it for the next to come.

Week 1: awareness

To be green and aware, it is to be in harmony with Mother Nature. It is to:

  • provide the best product possible for the self and Mother Earth
  • improve the vitality of life
  • protect and restore the quality of life and the natural environment.

For now, as it is still winter (even if I'm beginning to work in the green houses), I'm working on my awareness by meditation and inner works. I'm grounding my self to Dana each day. I'm also opening my five senses, which is crucial in awareness.

Here's how to do it:

Earth Grounding Meditation

Helps to focus one's attention on the here and now.

Begin by taking a deep, slow breath in ....release slowly out. Do several times paying attention to your body responding by allowing stress and tensions to flow out of the body and away. Close your eyes and picture yourself as your favorite tree. Feel roots sprouting from the soles of your feet and searching deeper ....deeper ...into mother earth, into Dana. Feel strong ....feel rooted.....feel grounded...feel true and in perfect peace. When you can feel the strength that comes from being fully grounded in the earth, move your thoughts up your legs, torso,  shoulders, neck, face, up to the top of your head by taking the energy that Dana is giving you. Sip the energy, with your roots, like a straw, feel it growing, pulsing, a refreshing energy. Feel branches sprouting from the top of your head, reaching ...stretching ...opening ....towards the sky. Higher.....higher ..towards the sky. Feel the great expansion from your branches. Bring Dana's gift into to sky, to the stars. Feel the light, feel the peace and the love. Inhale slowly up the trunk of your body and exhale through the branches over your head. Feel the cycle of breath energy coming up from your roots and showering over your head through the branches. Continue for a few more breaths. When you are ready, open your eyes. Feel stronger. Feel grounded. Still, you are always connected.

Repeat this meditation as needed.

Other things that may help you feel grounded is to take off your shoes and allow your bare feet to play directly on earth. It is great to do this meditation in a garden or a forest. To "become" green ourselves, a flower, a tree, a simple grass...You may also wish to hold a handful of fresh dirt in your hands, to feel the energy that is in the soil. You may even try to bring it into the house and place in a bowl (maybe added to your altar) and add crystals around, to bring your focus to the earth.

Wearing jewelry or meditating with some of the following gemstones may also help!  Hematite, Onyx, Black tourmaline, or Tiger's Eye. You can also wear articles of clothing that are black, brown, or other earth tones to help you with the feeling grounded.

Five Senses Meditations

This meditation is so simple, yet it is vital.

First week: concentrate on earring
Second week: concentrate on seeing
Third week: concentrate on smelling
Fourth week: concentrate on tasting (a mint, an orange, a good wine...meditating wile eating is something I never done, but WOW! You have to try this!)
Fifth week: concentrate on feeling (feeling the floor, the air, our cloth...incredible!)

After all those weeks, you are beginning to recognize some changes. Changes in your Self. The famous I of Rudolf Steiner!

Shopping I was, last week! Imbolc came with its blessings, and I could feel its energies, pushing me to plan my future garden. Imbolc is "In the Belly", in the Cauldron of Inspiration. Cerridwen was there, and I worked as ever, seeking seeds, getting boxes and gloves. Cerridwen helped me with Her wisdom and inspiration.

The importance of buying organic seeds is vital. The seeds will push themselves out, seeking the Sun and minerals. The seed is using itself for energy. Remember the saying: seeds of life?

Non-organic seeds bathed in some kind of chemicals dirt (sometime pink). Like the saying "you are what you eat", it is the same thing for seeds. The seed is everything, have everything to birth. If she bathed in chemicals, the plant will be chemical. The seed is the future of the plant.

I cannot emphasized enough why it is so important to eat organic food, and why I'm seeking and buying organic seeds. If I could, I would even buy biodynamic seeds!

I read lately that: "The result is that conventionally grown food is often tainted with chemical residues, which can be harmful to humans. There is debate over whether dietary exposure to pesticides at levels typically found on food is dangerous, but experts say that consumers should use caution. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers 60 percent of herbicides, 90 percent of fungicides and 30 percent of insecticides to be carcinogenic. Pesticides can have many negative influences on health, including neurotoxicity, disruption of the endocrine system, carcinogenicity and immune system suppression. Pesticide exposure may also affect male reproductive function and has been linked to miscarriages in women." http://www.mercola.com/2003/jul/23/organic_food.htm

"There are numerous POPs which pollute the environment. Some of those which have given rise for particular concern are persistent organochlorines. A meeting of the UNEP’s governing Council in 1995 identified a list of 12 POPs as substances of clear concern in accordance with the precautionary principle. These chemicals are all organochlorines. They include dioxins and furans (PCDD/Fs), which are produced as unwanted by-products of several industrial processes including incineration and PCBs and HCB, which have several uses and are also formed as unwanted by-products. DDT, chlordane, heptachlor, aldrin, dieldrin, endrin, toxaphene and mirex, which are pesticides complete the list. The major route of exposure to POPs in humans is through consumption of food. Most of the 12 POPs listed by UNEP are widespread pollutants and are found in foodstuffs from all over the world. Since POPs are soluble in fats (lipophilic) the highest levels are usually found in fatty foods such as meat, fish and dairy products, but POPs can also be found in vegetables, fruit and cereals. In addition to the general contamination of foods by POPs, there have also been accidents in which foodstuffs have become highly contaminated. Greenpeace has issued this report to highlight the contamination of the human food chain by POPs. The report sources material from the published scientific literature." http://www.greenpeace.org/international/press/reports/recipe-for-disaster-a-review

I also strongly advice to read this: "A Greenpeace true food guide gives consumers the chance to buy GE free food. The lack of labelling in many countries mean you can't tell what is in your food." http://www.greenpeace.org/international/campaigns/genetic-engineering

Where to buy organic seeds...hum...well...surprisingly, there's more and more organic seeds on the market!

I discovered a natural cosmetic product line, and I wanted to share with you.  I tried it, and loved it. It worth the price, on all three levels.

Here I go!

I had some thought this week about "why am I  doing all this? Why caring so much about Mother Earth?" The only answer I got was this : "because we HAVE to".

It is not easy to face the fact that the Earth is damnly polluted, that we are responsible for this, and that we are the cancer of Mother Earth (it is the only words that I can find to describe this feeling). Of course, and thanks Goddess, some people are working to be better, learning to be better, and trying to heal Mama Earth.

If some specialists are saying that it is not all our fault...(ex: heating/freezing natural cycles)...no one can turn their back to the fact that we are not helping at all.

The melting of North pole, the rising of the Oceans, more and more floods, hurricanes and storms...all are the consequences of global changes. Less polar bears, petrole in the sea, more dry land than ever...this is not a movie. This is reality!

So, here I go. This week, I did something (as I will every weeks, following my "program of actions").

Monday, I opened my cupboard, and watch. What is there? Is it good, or not?...I have pets (three cats and three Chihuahua, all saved animals). Goddess knows what's in those products! Chemicals, additives, perfumes...and don't even try to read the ingredients! There's none! Hum...too dangerous?

I connected myself to the amazing PETA friendly products lists. Dear me...all my products were on the BAD list!!! http://www.caringconsumer.com/

So, I did my first bottle of MY OWN all purpose cleaner (after hunting for recipe and ingredients, opening my herbal classes books, did researches, etc...). It's been a year since I wanted to finally make my own recipes. Natural, safe (mostly for my dogs and cats), and very pleasant to smell. I'm quite happy! You should try, it is so healing (for the self, and Dana). http://www.care2.com/healthyliving/

I also did a hand dish soap with lavender essential oil...that is very different of all those artificially chemical pseudo citrus smell. Thanks Goddess, it is working, and my bottles have even great looking! I'm now washing my dishes with a natural soap and a natural sponge (organic and biodegradable).

I remember an article that I read on Unhindered Living Center about household cleaning products. It is true that most of them are dangerous for our pets and babies. It is even written on the bottles. So...if it is dangerous for THEM, it should be, logically, for US! So...why are they still making and selling them? Big question! :)

"Household Cleaning Supplies - In 2000, cleaning products were responsible for nearly 10% of all toxic exposures reported to U.S. Poison Control Centers, accounting for 206,636 calls.  The most acutely dangerous cleaning products are corrosive drain cleaners, oven cleaners, and acidic toilet bowl cleaners, according to Philip Dickey of the Washington Toxics Coalition. Corrosive chemicals can cause severe burns on eyes, skin and, if ingested, on the throat and esophagus. Ingredients with high acute toxicity include chlorine bleach and ammonia, which produce fumes that are highly irritating to eyes, nose, throat and lungs, and should not be used by people with asthma or lung or heart problems. These two chemicals pose an added threat in that they can react with each other or other chemicals to form lung-damaging gases. Combining products that contain chlorine and ammonia or ammonia and lye (in some oven cleaners) produces chloramine gases, while chlorine combined with acids (commonly used in toilet bowl cleaners) forms toxic chlorine gas. (...)Chemicals that are so-called "hormone disruptors" can interfere with the body's natural chemical messages, either by blocking or mimicking the actions of hormones. Possible health effects include (...) an increasing rates of some kinds of cancers. The alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEs) used in some detergents and cleaners have been shown to mimic the hormone estrogen; one APE, p-nonylphenol, has caused estrogen-sensitive breast cancer cells to multiply in a test tube study." http://www.unhinderedliving.com/chemicals.html

I will not put out all the stuffs that I still have (too dangerous). What I will do, it is simply use them less, and when they will be empty, wash the bottles and put them on the recycling bag. Bye bye bad products!

Dana

Inspired by Druidry, Anthroposophy and the Goddess Tradition, deeply linked to simple Eco-feminism and traditional herbology, I will share a new way of life that is friendly to Dana, Gaia. Can we heal the Earth? Good question...but for sure, we can heal the Self linked to Dana.

"Most of us sense that the Earth is more than a sphere of rock with a thin layer of air, ocean and life covering the surface. We feel that we belong here as if this planet were indeed our home. (...) As time passed this warm relationship faded and was replaced by the frigidity of the schoolmen. The life sciences, no longer concerned with life, fell to classifying dead things and even to vivisection. "Dana" (Gaia or Ge) was stolen from theology to become no more the root from which the disciplines of geography and geology were named. Now at last there are signs of a change." http://www.ecolo.org/lovelock/what_is_Gaia.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Lovelock

Dana existed before everything; she existed before Time. Dana, the eternal, prehistoric Earth Mother goddess (known by the Tuatha de Danann), is fertility incarnated, a nurturing and protecting mother, mysterious and powerful, yet gentle and as gracious as a swan. She is life, pure energy, nurturing mother; everything that lives, breathing or not, flows with Her, toward Her, through Her. She is the Earth, the Sea and the Sky, She is Life, She is spirit.  All that is living eventually return to Her, into Her darkness, Her fertile Earth. We are born from Her, and reborn, once again, from Her.

She is a reminder that we must ground ourselves in the reality of Nature and incorporate all sides of ourselves, be they pleasant or unpleasant, light or dark.
