I should begin by admitting I bought this movie solely because I thought the woman on the cover was good looking. It turns out that woman is Barbara Bach and as the back of the video box points out she is most famous for marrying Ringo Starr. That fact alone should have set off warning bells in my head.
The story is about a news team consisting of three young babes who are in a small hick town to cover some kinda festival. It never really explained what the festival was all about but I think it had something to do with dressing up like dorks and baking pies.Whatever the event is it sure is popular because much to the girl's chagrin there are no more motel rooms left in town.Long story short they meet Sydney Lassick and he agrees to let them spend the night at his place.Sydney is one of them fellas you probably don't recognize his name but if you saw him you would say oooooh THAT guy. This being a horror movie of course Sydney isn't the swell samaritan the girl's think he is.It turns out there is something monsterous in the cellar and you should be able to figure out the rest.
There is nothing here you probably haven't seen before but a few things raises it up above the rest of the pack.Barbara Bach is beautiful and does a good enough acting job to get by.Sydney Lassick really steals the show and his performance alone makes the movie worth renting. There is something a bit sleazy about the whole thing. The gore is pretty minimal but some of the issues dealt with, like incest, and the way they are treated is a little offensive.I won't spoil what is in the basement but when I finally seen it the first thing I thought was "They would never get away with that these days" It's co-directed by the guy who did Friday the 13th part 5 and the credits had Stan Winston's name in them but I'm not sure what he did to contribute. -Badfish |
