Versus
Holy shit what a movie. I had heard a lot about Versus, that it was the next big thing coming out of Japan, but even after all the hype it still blew me away. The Japanese are cranking out some amazing stuff these days. Do whatever you must to see this movie.

We start off in ancient Japan where a warrior is kicking mucho ass with his trusty sword, only to be cut down himself in a rather spectacular fashion. We then leap to modern times where two escaped convicts who are in a forest to meet some Yakuza. They really aren't too sure what is going on but you tend to not argue when someone is nice enough to break you out of jail.  The henchman arrive and tell them they have to wait for the boss. One of the convicts instantly dislikes them and they start butting heads. When he sees they have a girl kidnapped he snaps and things get violent. One of the yakuza is shot dead. This probably would have lead to some kinda falling out but the corpse jumps back up...it's zombie time! The forest they are in is a portal to another world or some such thing. Anybody who dies there will return and of course the Yakuza have been using it as a dumping ground to get rid of corpses for years. The hero convict has to protect the girl from the yakuza, the zombies, two crazyl policemen, and worse. We have a major fucking bloodbath on our hands. Kung Fu, Woo style gunplay, Zombies, swordplay, people getting large hunks blown or ripped out of them. One bloody, amazing battle after another. This is the goriest movie I've seen in a long time. Later on the plot develops and reincarnation enters into things and we learn bit by bit as we move along leading us to a big showdown at the end.

I mentioned the gore in it, and there is PLENTY, but it's more than that. There is real talent in the direction. It's beautifully directed and acted. The directing has a hyperkinetic feel to it. I feel kinda like im raving about it but it really did blow me away. Check it out NOW!-
