DIFFERENT TYPES OF DOG FOOD
Canned food, favourite of most dogs.  Good choice for small dogs who are finniky, dogs that have trouble keeping weight on, and older dogs with poor teeth.  If you are to buy canned food choose a good quality premium or name brand food or what ever is prescribed by your vet.  But this food is expensive and is mostly water (70%)

Semi - Moist food, not as messy as canned food, packets come in single serving sizes.  Long shelf life because high is sugar and preservatives.

Dry Food.  Is cheaper, and crunchy, less likely to build up on teeth.  It doesn't spoil as quickly or easily as wet.

Premium foods, name brand foods, and generic foods.  Premium foods are the most expensive.  Has more digestable ingrediants and is easier to digest.  The price of premium foods also have there savings, you will serve less, so you will have to buy less, and your dog will eliminate less.  Name brand foods, some vets say they are just as healthy and full of nutrition as premium foods.  If you buy name brand check the ingrediants animal protien, eggs, cheese should appear first on the list.  Food is doing its job when the dogs coat is shiny, he is a proper weight when being fed the correct amounts, and has lots of energy.  Generic foods, store brand foods, usually does not do the job it is suppost to, usually have not been tested on dogs, so you do not know what it will do to your dog.  You are also not really saving money on generic foods as your dog has to eat more.
