Exmples: a book, a boy, a car An is used before singular conuntable nouns that begin with vowels Examples: an umbrella, an apple, an orange or vowel - like sounds Example: an X-ray Plural noun Definition : Whrn a noun means more than one Example: apples, boys ,girls, books, dhurches, boxes Rule # 1 The plural of noun is susally formed by adding 'S' Examples : lamp - lamps / cat - cats / fork - forks Rule # 2 Nouns ending in S, Z, X, and Ch form the plural by adding 'es' Examples: dish - dishes / box - boxes / church - churches Rule # 3 Nouns ending in y followed by a consonant formed into a plural by changing y to ie and by a vowel form their plurals by adding only S Examples: fly - flies / lady - ladies / city - cities day - days / toy - toys / essay - essays Rule # 4 Nouns ending in f or fe are mad plural by changing f or fe to ves Examples: beef - beeves / wife - wives / leaf - leaves Irregular plurals There are some plural nouns that have special spellings |
