MULIMEDIA CENTER

THE MULTI MEDIA HUMAN SKILLS DEVELOPMENT CENTER CAREER 2000TM
is a human resources development program established as a result of a collaborative project between the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University and Knowlogy International Group (Washington DC, USA). The center covers an area of 600 square meters. It includes six laboratories serving English language, computer and business administration. The center offers, with discounted fees for university students, interactive multimedia technology based training courses. This aims to improve the skills of trainees in the areas of English language, computer, and business qualification. This will ultimately improve the skills and proficiency of manpower thus enabling them to seize the opportunities offered by businessmen in Egypt. With such proficiency, the challenges of the new century will be easy to meet.

INFORMATION NETWORK

THE INFORMATION NETWORK AND THE INTERNET
The Information network of the Faculty of Engineering of Ain Shams University is the oldest network among the Egyptian universities. It started its E mail service in 1989 via the Egyptian University Network, which is hosted at the Supreme Council of Universities. In 1992, the Faculty built its own internal local area network, (LAN) connected to the Internet via the Egyptian universities network. The LAN is based on a tree structure with a thick coaxial cable backbone and thin wires connections to the attached computers. The LAN is covering the main building with three floors. Users can run their applications to the Internet throughout their LAN connections. In 1994, a network room, with ten PC’s is established to serve the Internet applications for all users that don’t have any LAN connection. In 1997, the LAN is redesigned to support structured cabling, switches, hubs, and a terminal server to support dial up services. Now, one hundred dial up users and three hundred Faculty members can access the Internet through the Faculty LAN.
