Diorama , 1st Prize Winner
Assemblying tanks, AFVs, APCs and painting 1/35 scale figures to perform military dioramas turned a routine job in years and I missed to build large scale aviation models. I always thought Bf 109 as a legendary airplane of WW II and decided to build one to compete in 1998 Turkish Aviation Museum Scale Modelling Contest. The Bf 109 in my diorama is # 12 of 7./JG 27 Reichsverteidigung, stationed at Götzendorf, Vienna, Austria in October 1943.
Model kits
Revell 4772 1/32 Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6
Italeri 313 Schwimmwagen
Tamiya 35180 German Tank Engine Maintenance Set
Tamiya 35184 German Machine Gun Crew on Maneuver
Tamiya 35186 German Fuel Drum Set
Tamiya 35188 German Tank Ammo Loading Crew
Revell 1/32  Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 is a good model kit with engine details, removable engine cover, movable flaps and tail, opening canopy; but poor cockpit details. Referring to Squadron Series books and Luftwaffe websites; I added some details to cockpit using plasticard, cables, copper wiring (as panel switches, gauges and pipes) and masking tape, lead foil (as seat belts and buckles). Extra piping was also added to the Daimler Benz (DB 605 Aa) motor of the 109.I painted and applied decals as shown  in the kit's painting guide. The decals in the box are markings of  Bf 109 flown by a German Ace Erich Hartmann, I used the general markings, # 12 on the airplane is  1/24 Academy  German Tiger Tank marking. Weathering was made by pastel chalks.
To fit 1/35 figures to 1/32 Bf 109 diorama, extra work was needed. I cut them and add 2-3 mm.s in length to each figure using filling putty. For suitable posing, I used different parts from several kits. The pilot is the one in Italeri Schwimmwagen kit with Verlinden 1007 Tiger Crew arms. The newspaper and the magazine on the barrel from Tamiya 35212 German Soldiers at Field Briefing. Luftwaffe Maintenance Crew  are German Tank Maintenance and Ammo Loading Crew with different arms painted in Luftwaffe dressing. Airfield Guard is Machine Gun Crew figure with Luftwaffe decals on helmet. Ammo boxes, jerry cans and other accessories are all Tamiya.
The platform of 109 is made of balsa, painted with enamels and weathered by pastel chalks. The airfield is sandpaper  No.600 and the ground is modelling clay covered with static grass.
