Second Review:  “Everybody has Faith in Something”

We all need some sort of ontological base for progress, however we might define that term: for Galileo, “the book of Nature is written in mathematical language.” For the philosophers of Newton’s Enlightenment, unaided Reason leads us to truth.

Whatever you might think of Kierkegaard, his Either/Or does put the relationship between faith in ethics, reason and faith in God in a challenging light.

1. In the context of his examination of the story of Abraham and Isaac, write upon what Kierkegaard means by ONE of the following:

·        The “Absolute relationship to the Absolute”

·        The “Teleological suspension of the ethical”

·        “For Abraham, to sin would be to remain in the ethical”

2:   On an archaeological dig, you discover a scroll that contains what looks like a dialogue or interior monologue from either Abraham, Sarah, or both. Translate this dramatic fragment; then append your commentary.

You know the rules. Due Friday, Oct. 16 by 5:00.
