This period is made up of the Civil War and the Interregnum (Commonwealth)
CIVIL WAR --- 1642 to 1649
The Civil War was made up of two groups;
-a. The CAVELIERS (King's Head) - Made up oof Nobility, large land owners, members of the Church of England.

-b. The ROUNDHEADS (Oliver Cromwell as leadder, pictured to the right) - Captured Charles, held him prisoner till 1649, tried him as a trader, and got executed.
The Commonwealth --- 1649 to 1660
Cromwell took control of the government, abolished the title of King. Calling himself "Lord Protector". When he died, his son took his place, but he was unsuccessfull. So Parliament invited the son of Charles I to come back to be King.
This starts the beginning of the restoration of the Stuart Dynasty after the Civil War.....
