John Paul Young

John Paul Young has never made a big deal about the successes he's had in his 27 year career, or about his four million plus worldwide album sales, he simply goes about his work as a singer, songwriter, radio announcer and television personality with the same 'matter of fact' approach, as a skilled tradesman - with attention to detail and a love of his craft.

John doesn't deny the fact that the release of the movie, "Strictly Ballroom", virtually reinvented him in the public's eye, and he calmly rode and enjoyed that wave which took him to Spain to appear on two of Spanish television's major European networks, Japan to perform for members of their Royal Family, Thailand, Fiji, and further, to perform at many of Australia's highest profile events like the Sydney Olympic 2000 bid, the AFI Awards, the Australian Music Awards and the Australian Grand Prix Ball.

Although touring for months on end is less frequent these days, his show, ably backed by his band of 21 years -The Allstar Band - has been a huge hit in the Corporate Market. Events for General Motors Holden, Toyota, Subaru, National Mutual, McDonalds, Digital Equipment Corporation, National Panasonic, Dairy Farmers, AMP and IBM, to name a few, gave him the days free to experiment with radio, achieving further success, as an announcer, at both NewFM in Newcastle and Sydney's 2CH. He currently has a syndicated Radio programme aptly named "Yesterday's Hero's" which is broadcast throughout the eastern states of Australia on the RG Network.

John's role as a television personality has seen him appear on many national programmes: the Coca Cola Summer Promotion, Channel 7's Hard Yards, the premiere of Channel 9's Don't Forget Your Toothbrush, Channel 2's Roy and HG, 9's This is Your Life tribute to Molly Meldrum & Jon English, 10's Monday to Friday presenting the entertainment & music news segment and 7's Full Frontal with a spoof on the footy show, "The Netty Show", performing "Simply the Tops", a take off of the Tina Turner football anthem "Simply the Best". He's also crossed the pond to New Zealand where he performed and competed in NZTV's "Celebrity Wheel of Fortune" Christmas Special. He won the game, and the show won the highest ratings of the year.

Over the last few years, John has released the "Now" album; then returned to Germany, after an absence of 20 years, to appear on all the major TV programmes & specials, prompting a month-long tour there in '98 with performances right across the country backed by his outfit of 20 years "The Allstar Band". He has played the role of record producer Gus Sharkey (aka Phil Spector) in the stage production of "Leader of the Pack". he's had a reworked version of his 70's hit, "I Hate the Music", recorded with contemporary band Ratcat, surface on the charts in a spin-off from an Australian movie "Occasional Course Language", from which, the video introduced John to a whole new music generation. He's had another song "All Hell Broke Loose", written with Angry Anderson and John's long time keyboard player "Pig" Morgan, released by the contemporary band "with attitude" Rose Tattoo, for their '98 national tour, and John is currently appearing in a quirky Kraft Foods TV commercial which uses another of his big hits, "Yesterday's Hero".

As John says about his career, "....every day brings somethin' new".
