| Introduction: Ohrid Lake is situated 695 meters altitude above sea level. It is surrounded by two missives, Mokra (1589 m.) and Jablanica (1945 m.) from the side of Albania and in the eastern part is surrounded by limestone mountain – Galicica (2255m). The volume of Ohrid Lake is approximately 360 km3; from that 2/3 are belonging to Macedonia and 1/3 to Albania. The size of seashore is 87.5 km and maximum width 31 km and 14.8 km. The maximum depth of the lake is 289 m. average depth is 164 m. Total volume of the lake is 60 km3. Climate: This region has local continental climate with an average temperature 11.4 C. The maximum temperature during the month august is 34.5 C and minimum average temperature during the month January is 1.5 C. The average sprinkle on this region is approximately 760 mm in Year. In autumn and winter, the wind is mostly blowing from west and in spring and summer from southeast. The lake is 2-3 million years old. The research done in the lake shows that there is situated unique flora and fauna in Europe and it can be compared only with the Baikal and Caspic lakes. Fauna: Ohrid lake has it’s own characteristic as endemic lace, because 88% of all species are endemic. |
