Kindness can be something taught
Doing for others, your reward on the spot
Reaching out to those in need
Throwing away your worldly greed
Taking just a moment to say something kind
Can change a future for one dark in their mind
Thoughtfulness can be found in many forms
Doing for another to chase away their darkend storms
Selfishness, lost in a sea of appreciation
Your heart grows as you do without self recognition
This is on my mind… how some seem to be so kind
All the while they are doing to bring themselves gratitude
When doing for another should be your only fortitude
Do you know what you gain when do for another?
Do you consider your neighbor to be your brother?
Have you ever had someone say or do for you?
Did their action change your point of view?
Did they do that deed without expecting in return?
If they did, I wonder what it is you learned
Your gift when giving to another is found
Not by seeking a moral high ground
But, by causing your very own heart to grow
This is the lesson I hope you will know
Opportunity to have your heart expand
Is found my friend by lending a hand
By taking a minute to say that you care
By being quiet sometimes, and just using your ears
By going the extra mile when it wasn’t requested
This can heal you when you have been tested.
I find it to be a wonderful thing
When kindness washes away bitters sting
It’s almost like a medicine you give to yourself
When you share with another some sort of wealth
In my life I have been challenged to learn what this means
In my furry to toss away bitterness, so I could reach my own dreams
I found that it’s easier to give kindness than pain
And in doing so I healed again and again
Try it, you will see what I say is so true
If you reach out to someone who has been cruel to you
Their attitude may not change but your pain will disappear
And the medicine you inhaled will always be near.

This poem is dedicated to Kevin, who I believe is the most giving and generous person I have ever known, he gives without expectation and with a pure heart and he gives to so many on a regular basis... He gives his heart, his humour, his love, his time, his ear, his compassion, his mind, and yes sometimes his money. Never have I seen or heard him expect anything from anyone he has helped in return. Your a great teacher!
