While the storm rages, while life turns it pages
We have a choice to rage with it or choose
To breath right on through it
While the clouds form, we either seek shelter
Or we wait too long and rain becomes an unholy anointer
There we sit in our sad ambiance
No one there to offer affirmance
Wishing we had never arrived in such a place
Living for tomorrow instead of seeing the present grace
While the sea rises, we watch from the sand
With no logical plan
What if this storm reaches dry land
What if it takes my life in it’s hand
While the earth quakes
What actions will we take
Where would we go for relief from it’s shake
Understanding that disasters will be
What have you devised to protect you from debris
Going into anything with your eyes wide shut
Is a foolish man ignoring his gut
While the fire spreads, what do you cherish
What, if it were gone, would you spend your wish upon
What if your home had gone up with flames
What were you thankful for, that remained
Did you go back into the flames to seek a worldly possession
Would you lose your own life for it’s obsession
For even in the storms of life, if your prepared you’ll win
In character wisdom grows from within.
Be ready when life challenges your soul
For humanity will always ride storms to and fro
They don’t go away because you don’t like them
They are your opportunity to seize the day
Realizing they will be on your door, is the obvious way
Pretending they won’t knock
Is like saying an earthquake will never rock
Pretending they will never reach you
Is like saying the sky will always be blue
Pretending you have seen the worst
Is like saying the oceans storms were all rehearsed
Be ready for growth, be ready for action
For the storms you have seen are just a fraction
This poem is about being seeing the bigger picture, it’s about being prepared.
Understanding the storms will always be there, what did you learn and how ready were you when it knocked on your door,
when life asked you, “what are you made of?” how did you reply? Did you give up or did you reach inside and try?
This is life, give it some thought.
