~The Game~
So many out there in the game
What do they win, What do they gain?
Some break hearts, right and left
Careless giving to a strangers quest
No thought of their future, or their past
Don't want a relationship that will last
Just want to drink, Just want to dance
Just want sex, and take a chance
Leave your number and they'll call
Days go by, no word at all
You sit and hope, You sit and wait
But, their love is not your fate
Eager to move on, Your out again
Dancing, Drinking with your friend
Another appears, So handsome and strong
He knows the words, to string you along
You fall again and make quick choices
Ignoring your soul and inner voices
The pattern is set, Your in the game
You don't know the rules, So you feel the pain
Over and over you set yourself up
You throw your hands high scream "I give up"
Then, your certain you'll find "the one" in that bar
You think he is there, your bright shining star
So you arrive, and consume with the crowd
Doing what makes you feel less than proud
Why do so many play "the game"
With nothing to win but hurt and shame
We get lonely and afraid
So momentary affection is played
I refuse to dance your intimacy dance
With my heart, I can not take that chance
I refuse to allow you to play with my heart
For I know what I am worth
I am set apart
So move on to someone who is more naive
Maybe your lies, they'll believe
I am too wise, and I am too smart
To allow some game to mess with my heart
So, the next time you think of messing with mine
Think again young man, I'll turn the tables on you this time
This poem is dedicated to a friend of mine, who has been somewhat vulnerable in the past couple of months, she deserves more then she has settled for.
