This is a Rhufain as the Welsh folk have called him. He’s a Roman sheep. The Roman introduced the sheep to the UK over 2 thousand years ago. They were not the first sheep to the Shores of England; the Stone Age settlers brought some when they crossed the English Channel about 3000BC. So why do these sheep have a Welsh name? Well besides anything good having to have a Welsh name, it would seem that some of the Welsh took it upon them selves to preserve this now rare breed of sheep. Such an example can be found at this vineyard in Shropshire The other name for these sheep is Cotswolds.
More on sheep & Black dye to follow…. Well sometimes soon, K.
