| Adaptation Charlie Kaufman writes the way he lives... with great difficulty. His twin brother, Donald, lives the way he writes... with foolish abandon. Susan writes about life... but can't live it. John's life is a book... waiting to be adapted. One story, four lives, a million ways it can end. Nicolas Cage is brilliant here, playing both Charlie and Donald Kaufman and Meryl Streep does a wonderful job as Susan. Charlie Kafman is of course the writer of Being John Malkovich and was actually approached to write a screenplay based on real life Book "The Orchid Theif" by Susan Orlean and this is the movie he has written, a movie about how difficult it was to write the movie, it's a weird idea, and some may call it lazy, but it works perfectly. There are tons of laughs and the movie subtly pokes fun at hollywood while in a way, accepting and embracing it, pointing out that no one wants to watch a movie simply about flowers and therefore a few hollywood touches needed to be added to the mix, even if they are totally cliched, as long as they are there for a reason then it's ok. Some may not like the way the movie changes halfway through but it has to be like this, it's what the film is about, and if you don't understand it then you'll just have to watch it again, even if you do then go watch it twice anyway. This is a movie full of hilarious and dramatic moments, with some excellent performances, notably from Nicolas Cage, as the two twins, who is simply amazing and is reason alone to see this movie over and over again.
