The Hours

Nicole Kidman plays Virginia Woolf, who is in the
process of writing her book "Mrs. Dalloway" in the late
1920s, Julian Moore plays 50s housewife Laura Brown,
who is preoccupied with reading Woolf's novel and in 2001 Clarrisa Vaughn (Meryl Streep) is living her life exactly like Mrs. Dalloway in the book. This movie deals with death, suicide and deep depression and therefore may not be easy to sit through. The acting is, on the whole, superb, Meryl Streep, Julian Moore, Ed Harris and most of the supporting cast do wonderful jobs, whereas Kidman is rather dull here, mainly because her character isn't likeable in any way and, suprisingly, doesn't have a lot to do. The fact that all of the women's stories are so similar makes you feel like you're having to sit through each scene three times in a row and this can become rather tedious, all this repetition also means that not one of the stories is fully developed. If you ask me, one story would have been enough. Overall, though, the superb acting on offer from most of the cast is reason enough to see this film and if you like any other aspect of it then that's a bonus.
