Solaris

George Clooney plays Kelvin, a psychologist, who has
been called to a space station orbiting a mysterious
oceanic world called Solaris. It turns out that strange
things have been happening on board and two crew members are dead, not only that but Kelvin's deceased wife Rheya (Natascha McElhone) has suddenly appeared and is very confused about her new existence. Anyone with little patience would walk out of this movie very quickly simply because it is very slow paced. It plays out like some kind of dream, the editing can be confusing and it constantly fades in and out of shots, it's an interesting approach but at times you will just want it to hurry up and move on. The acting is good but nothing special, Steven Soderbergh does a good job directing and the movie has a nice look to it but it is true that it is very slow. The ending is rather disappointing, maybe because the whole movie raises so many questions and doesn't bother trying to explain any of them, it's all very vague, but if you have an imagination and like to think you will enjoy this aspect of the film. Overall it's a wonderful idea that hasn't been carried out too well, it's intriguing but lacks proper substance. Those of you who like all your questions in a movie to be answered will hate this, those who like to make their own conclusions and ponder about a movie long after the credits have rolled will most likely enjoy it.
