Radio Active Pollution :-
Some elements such as radium, uranium etc emit invisible effects known as radiation. The emission of these invisible radiations is known as radio activity and such substances are known as radio-active substances.
Sources of Radio Active Pollution :-
Nuclear power plants and testing of atom bombs are the main sources of radio active pollution. Nuclear wastes containing radio nucleides produced in the laboratories, hospitals using radio active materials colour T.V. receiver also pollute the environment. Radio active wastes should be given a special treatment before they are disposed of. Diseases like cancer, tumours, cataract can be caused by it and it can shorten the life span of the living beings particularly the mammals who are affected most than the insects. For controlling and regulating the use of atomic energy the Indian Parliament has enacted the Atomic Energy Act, 1962 which as been later amended twice first in 1986 and then in 1987 for making it more effective.
