KANSAS ENVIROTHON RULES Revised November 23, 2004 |

1. Students enrolled in grades 9 through 12 in the previous school year or equivalent home school ranking are eligible to compete. 2. Contestants or participant schools should not be excluded because of race, color, religion, sex or national origin. 3. A. A team may participate in only one county/area competition. B. One county champion team or one designated team per county is allowed to participate in the state contest. 4. A team will consist of five members from the same school, or five members from the same organization or association, for example: FFA, 4-H, scouts. Some school districts may cross county boundaries and students may live in adjoining counties, as long as they attend the same school or belong to the same organization or association. Home-schooled students must participate and live in the county that they represent. 5. Teams must be accompanied by a team advisor and/or public agency or conservation district representative. 6. During the competition, the advisors may travel with their teams during the teaching sessions, but shall not travel with their team during the testing. 7. Snuff, tobacco, drugs and all alcohol are PROHIBITED during any part of the competition. (Rules applicable to the local area will also be adhered to.) 8. Teams must arrange for chaperones for male and female team members for overnight events (state, national). 9. Advisors will be responsible to assure that teams display proper conduct during the competition and at the host facility. 10. Transportation, meals, and housing (if necessary) to the state contest will be the responsibility of the team and/or conservation district. 11. A pre-registration form and a non-refundable fee of $50.00 shall be submitted to the Envirothon Committee by March 1, by the Conservation District. An additional 50% ($25) shall be imposed for late registration fee after this date. 12. The Envirothon Committee will provide a resource packet to prepare for the state competition. These resources will be provided only after the registration FORM and FEE has been received. 13. The five station testing will be conducted by Kansas Envirothon committee, cooperating agencies and/or independent environmental professionals. 14. The five station tests will be comprehensive in nature. All five team members will work together to take the written tests. Approximately 30/40 minutes will be allowed per test with each test worth 100 point. 15. Judges decisions are Final on all events. Tiebreaker questions will be given in the event of a tie. 16. The team placement will be determined by the highest cumulative total points from the five tests. 17. Awards will be determinded by the KACD Conservation Education & Youth Committee and the availability of funds. 18. Rules and regulations of the Envirothon are subject to change. Any and all changes will be explained in advance to all teams and advisors. Any suggestions or improvements to the rules and regulations will be considered by the KACD Conservation Education & Youth Committee. 19. Kansas Envirothon State and County Competitions will adhere to the rules of the Kansas State High School Activities Association. 20. Cooperating agencies, corporate sponsors, advisors and participants involved in competition will be requested to complete an evaluation of the event. 21. Kansas Envirothon will conduct training for advisors/students just prior to the state competition. 22. Judges, one or two at each of the five stations in the competition, will be selected by the Kansas Envirothon committee. 23. An infraction of the Rules and Regulations of the Kansas Envirothon could result in disqualifications and dismissal from the event. 24. A. KACD Conservation Youth & Education Committee will pay for the dues for Kansas to belong to the National Envirothon. B. KACD Conservation Youth & Education Committee will pay for the team registration to attend the National Envirothon. C. The committee will also pay when funds are availalbe for 75% of the cost of transportation, which may or may not include airfare and van rental, for a five-member team and a male and/or female chaperon if both are required. D. The winning team will be responsible for the remaining 25% of the cost of transportation, meals and housing while in route to and from the competition. E. Travel arrangements for the winning team to the National Envirothon will be made by the Kansas Envirothon coordinator. F. Airline tickets are usually non-refundable or non-transferable. When airline tickets are purchased in a person'n name, and that person does not attend the National Envirothon regardless of the reason, that person will reimburse the Kansas Envirothon for the full price of the ticket. |
