POLO With a Purpose 2005 - Cancer Benefit

This event was attended by President Parsons and member Ed Kruzel to benefit the American Cancer Society. It was held at the Tarahumara Polo Club in La Union, New Mexico. Last year this event brought in over $48,000.00 for the American Cancer Society. President Parsons and Ed Kruzel met with Mayor Wardy at this event where the Mayor conveyed his support to the  efforts of the law enforcement officers in our community.

FOP 2005 Scholarship Award

A $1,000.00 scholarship award was awarded to a graduating senior from the Presidio High School in May. Our Lodge scholarship program will be retooled and expanded for the upcoming fall semester opening it up to more students in need for financial aid.

4th Annual FOP Memorial Day Bar BQ

This year's annual event was a larger success than anticipated and I thank all those those that attended and brought their families. Special thanks to Ruben Duran for cooking the fajitas on his "disco" for everyone. Although we got rained on earlier in the morning, the sun peaked through the clouds later in the afternoon making it a memorial event. See you next year!

H.R. 1002

This new bill which was introduced on the floor on March 1st addresses covering Customs and Border Protection officers with law enforcement (6C) coverage. The Lodge President has made several calls to Congressman Reyes' office encouraging him to cosponsor this bill. As of this date (4/4/2005) he has not signed on to it. Congressman Reyes had cosponsored last year's bill covering this topic and the Lodge President was informed that Congressman Reyes would most likely sign onto the new as well. The Lodge encourages all members to contact the Congressman's office regarding this bill at: 534-4400. Go to our member's area for discussion related to this topic and any updates.

FOP, Lodge 82 Conducts Successful Recruitment In our "Big Bend Area", Presidio, Texas

Lodge 82 hosted a federal officer's appreciation dinner at "The Palimos" in Presidio, Texas during a recent recruitment drive. Many federal officers came out to see what the Fraternal Order of Police had to offer them. All federal and local officers of the town were invited at no charge. Our Presidio area members helped set up this event; their wives helped by providing covered dishes for the event. All in all, it was a great success. We hope to return soon and put on a similar event just for the membership and their families.

Local Girl Gets Assistance for Surgery

June 28, 2004.   I would like to inform our membership along with the El Paso community of our lodge’s community support this past six months. Since most of our members cannot make our meetings due to work schedules, I'd like to take this opportunity to let you all know what we have been doing. As of this year, lodge #82 has assisted the American Heart Association along with the American Cancer Society in raising funds for their organizations. Recently, Lodge #82 along with the employees of the Department of Homeland Security, Fabens Port of Entry discovered a little girl in El Paso who needed assistance to help with her much needed surgery. Her story can be found here: http://www.borderlandnews.com/stories/borderland/20040618-132029.shtml

http://www.witnessthetruth.com/valeria.htm

President Parsons on behalf of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 82 along with the Port Director of the Fabens Port of Entry, Barry Miller, donated a total of $2,000.00 in cash and checks to this little girl’s surgery fund at the El Paso’s Youth Initiative Program meeting in June. This money is going to be used to assist her family in paying for her surgery in July and any other special needs that arise. I wish to thank all our members and the community for their continued support. Without your help, we cannot do what we do. Thank you all!
