I still remember the very first time I penned a
framed idea, I was 11, and my teacher had assigned a task to write the most
outlandish, unbelievable, nonsensical story our young minds could dream up and
so I embarked. I also remember standing
before the class as the “chosen one” to read the written portraitures of my
mind and feeling somewhat anxious and proud.
That was the beginning for me; from that point on it was a journey
through expressed thoughts, emotions, and images my mind would create from
blackness.
I call it abstract writing, much like a painter paints abstract, I too wrote in abstract form. Random thoughts covering a page until one
continuous idea emerged having no real beginning, middle or end simply one
colorful thought melting into another. Suddenly,
I found myself not able to stop, I was addicted to draining my mind of its
restlessness and in that silent chaotic art, poetry was born.
The very first time I wrote a poem, it was
dedicated to my mother, she was always a wonderful subject, loving, kind and
receptive, which embraced my freedom to expand into other regions of
possibility. Nature, love, friendship,
turmoil became some of my first subjects of creativity. That is when I realized I was meant to
write, when I woke in the morning the first thought that crept into my mind
lived and breathed for writing, what would I dream of today?
That was the beginning and now many years
later, I will share some of these first creations, coupled with their progression,
with you. So unbuckle your emotional
safety belt and come along for the ride, it’s guaranteed to be one trip you
won’t soon forget!
