Poetry Contest Information
 

The El Paso Public Library annually sponsors a poetry contest for children
 in grades 1st through 12th in the El Paso, Texas area.
This year we celebrated our thirteenth year!
The children may write the poems in either English or Spanish.
The awards are given to each grade level and for each language.
The entry forms are usually available in December or January
and are distributed to area schools.
The entry forms are also available in our libraries.
The deadline for the poetry entries is normally in February.
The award ceremony is held during April, which is National Poetry Month.

The deadline for this year's contest was on February 15, 2003.

 

For the 2004 Poetry Contest

The deadline for entries will be
February 14, 2004, at 5:00 p.m.

Rules
 

  Number One Students in grades 1 – 12 in the El Paso, Texas region may enter the poetry contest.
  Number Two

All poems must be original poetry written in either English or Spanish by the participant.  Only one entry may be submitted by each participant.

  Number Three Entries will become the property of the Library and will not be returned.
  Number Four




 

The deadline for submitting poems is Saturday, February 14, 2004 at 5:00 p.m.  Poems may be submitted to any El Paso Public Library location or
mailed to:
                          Poetry Contest
                          El Paso Public Library
                          501 N. Oregon
                          El Paso, TX  79901

No late entries will be accepted.
 
  Number Five E-mailed entries will not be accepted. 
Number Six
Please include the following information with your entry:
Your name, address, phone number, school, grade, and the
El Paso library you visit (or live nearby.)
 


Winners of the poetry contest will be contacted by the El Paso Public Library staff.

Winners in each category will receive a new book.

 


Judges
 


The Youth Services Staff at the El Paso Public Library would like to thank
the judges who volunteer their time and expertise in this annual event.
 Judging in 2003 was held at the Main Library February 27 - March 2, 2003.
The judges read 1410 poetry entries during this time.

Awards Ceremony


The award ceremonies for 2003 will be held at the
Clardy Fox Library on April 2, 2003 for Grades 1-6
and April 9, 2003 for grades 7-12.
Both award ceremonies will be at 6:00 pm.
