Creating Eric and Stephanie Forrester

In 1986, “The young and the restless” creators William J. Bell and his wife Lee Phillip Bell, got an offer from CBS television to create a new daytime soap opera for them as Capitol was to be cancelled. They were to come up with an idea for a new series. “Bill” and Lee spent a whole weekend together to come up with a good idea. CBS liked their view for their new drama and went with their idea. And finally, The bold and the beautiful was created.

Bill and Lee decided the fashion world was the foundation of the show. Originally, B&B was to take place in Chicago and were to go by the name “Rags”. But after some thoughts about it, Bill changed the title to “the bold and the beautiful” and changed to location to Los Angeles. Mostly because L.A. was a more suitable city for the show’s fashion theme and the fact that Bill and Lee had slowly moved from their hometown Chicago to Los Angeles.

The next step was to create characters for their new daytime drama. They planned to make the show family oriented, so they created two core families; the Valley family with no high social status – Logan, and the rich, famous and respected fashion family – Forrester.

A family needing two strong leaders, the matriarch and the patriarch, the roles of Eric and Stephanie Forrester were created.

Of course, they needed to have children. Bill and Lee created the oldest son, the playboy of the fashion world; Ridge Forrester. The younger brother, who always found himself in his brothers shadow; Thorne Forrester. And a daughter who was in conflict with her mother while she was her daddy’s little girl; Kristen Forrester. Also, the youngest child, the rebel of the family; Felicia Forrester who wasn’t living in Los Angeles at the time. But were to turn up later. As time went by, a third daughter no one but her mother knew of was created. The eldest daughter who suffered from Microcephalia, a decease who slowly killed her; Angela Forrester. The Forrester family was created.
