Amber, the eternal, the shining city, the Real
world.
Yes, it’s hyperbole, but for those who grew up
there, it’s true.
You grew up there.
Eric’s War – the war against the Monsters (or, as the Family knows it,
Patternfall) ended over fifty years ago.
In the spirit of a new accord, most of the Family brought any children
they knew about to Amber.
You grew up in a peaceful time, walked the Pattern,
learned how to travel Shadow, and – maybe – found a home away from home, but Amber
is, and always will be, more than Shadow could ever be.
Lately, though, things have been getting
strange. Shifting Shadows isn’t routine
anymore – in some, it’s so easy you can stray across, in others, it’s harder to
enter than it should be.
Others have said the same thing, and a few have
remarked on other changes to individual Shadows, but no one’s entirely sure
what the changes mean.
Even stranger, you’ve recently received a gift,
with no attribution, no way to trace it.
The only information you have is the card that came with it ‘To help you
achieve your goals’.
So the family is getting together to discuss these
strange tidings. Do you discuss your
gift, or just deal with the Shadows? Do
you trust in a fragile – and given your parents’ lifespans, brief – peace, or
do you play the family game? (NOTE: This game is discontinued.
Even as you enter Amber, there are rumours that a
body was found on the Castle grounds.
Another mystery, piled atop mysteries.
Who is it? Why was it
there? What effect will this have on
the family meeting?
If you’re interested in discovering the answers to
these questions, look over the information below and drop me a line. I’m accepting six to eight players, who can
play curious and active characters.
I’ll be posting as soon as possible after each player’s post, though I
generally won’t do more than two posts per day per player.
Once you’ve read over the background, but before you start in on character creation, send me a
concept. It doesn’t have to be
involved, but I do want a few things in it.
1)
First, I want a physical description. More than just Height and Weight, I want a
verbal picture of your character.
2)
Next, I want a Trump description – for those who
are going to work on Trumps.
3)
A basic history, including time with his
parent. (FYI, I’ll be letting you
choose who your parent is, but I reserve the right of veto. And I will use it if I feel it necessary.)
4)
One or two paragraphs explaining your character’s
personality.
5)
An explanation of how your character came into any
unusual skills they have.
