The founder of Virgin Records is Richard Branson created it in London in 1970. This company released its first artist in 1973. The artists that were from this company consistes of The Rolling Stones and Iggy Pop to Aaliyah and the Spice Girls. Richard Branson has since sold the Virgin Music Group(of which Virgin Records America is a division) to EMI in 1992 for nearly $1 billion dollars. He is now currently trying to buy it back as part of a strategy to become a leading force in the music industry again. The current key people include:Chairman and CEO Matt Serletic, COO Charlie Dimont, and CFO Gary Ilsley.
Branson is very well known and recognized in society. Branson appears in the 2002 list of "100 Greatest Britons" alongside others ranging from Winston Churchill and Isaac Newton to David Bechham and Aleister Crowley.
Branson is the example of a working entrepreneur. A banner that encompasses a variety of business organizations.
This article is very inspiring due to a small time man making it in a technologically advanced music industry. I learned that Virgin Records was a very profitable business and that Branson saw his mistake in selling it and now wants to acquire it again.
