ISTE NETS compated to SBEC's Teacher Standards

The two sets of standars are very similar in the topics and concepts they cover, but they do differ in their order and wording.

The first standard on both sets address technology operations and concepts.  ISTE's standards address teachers' need to demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts while SBEC's standards state that teachers should use technology-related terms, concepts, data input strategies, and ethical practices to make informed decisions about current technologies and their applications.

The second standard on ISTE's set discusses planning and designing learning environments and experices.  This is discussed somewhat in Standard V of SBEC's set which states that all teachers should know how to plan, organize, deliver and evaluate instruction for all students that incorporates the effective use of current technology.

The third and fourth standards of ISTE NETS address teaching, learning and the curriculum along with assessment and evaluation.  Similarly, SBEC's second and third standards state that teachers should identify task requirements, apply search strategies, and use current technology to efficiently acquire, analyze, and evaluate a variety of electronic information as well as use task-appropriate tools to synthesize knowledge, create and modify solutions, and evaluate results in a way that supports the work of individuals and groups in problem-solving situations.

The fifth standard of ISTE NETS addresses productivity and professional practice stating that teachers should use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice.  This encompasses SBEC standard IV which states that all teachers should communicate information in different formats and for diverse audiences.

The final standard of ISTE NETS addresses social, ethical, legal and human issues.  This is not as clearly or prominently stated in SBEC's standards.  The ISTE NETS seem to me to be more understandable to me.  The details of these standards seem to make more sense and be more direct that the SBEC standards.
