Ras Tila was a young virologist, trained in the Urasha Healing House. As a child, Ras was afflicted with a disease known as Kash's Mark, which accounts for the red discolorations under his skin and general frailty. The disease was always eventually fatal. The fact that Ras survived to adulthood was a miracle in and of itself, and when he decided to take classes at the hospital he spent so much time suffering in, he turned his genius to viruses. His grasp on viral genetics and pioneering of new techniques lead to the formulation of a cure. In doing this, Ras saved his own life and many thousands of others. When the human threat emerged, Ras was caught in the crossfire. He lost his eye and recieved severe wounds in trying to defend the children who were patients at the Healing House from the alien threat. A later attack claimed the life of his mother. Consumed with grief and hatred for the aliens who robbed him of the only family member he had left, Ras turned from the notion of finding cures for viruses to creating destructive plagues. His plan was not to commit genocide, only spread the diseases among any invading enemy forces. He spends the next seven years pursuing this goal.

Overview: Height: 5'6" (5'3" when standing flat- footed) Weight: 110 lbs Race: Kai Religion: Atheist Occupation: Teacher, researcher General Personality: In the broad scheme of things, Ras is extremely generous and brave. He has no fear of death, though he believes that there is no existance beyond it, and is willing to lay down his life in defense of those he loves. Ras likes to help others who are in need. However, Ras has quite a few flaws as well. He is willing, at first, to do terrible things in the formulation of his viruses, believing it to be a necessary evil. For quite some time, he refuses to see the aliens as people in the same way Draeg-Kith are. He is an Obsessive Compulsive, extremely meticulous, and often a grump, though his mood improves later in life after he marries and has children. He's also a merciless instructor, unforgiving of any disruption to the order of his class. While Ras likes animals, he only cares for pets when they belong to someone else. In getting to know Ras, most people come to admire and love him for his strength despite all he's gone through (and still goes through; his body remains weak all his life). He's a very good listener, but more than anything he's a man of action: Ras doesn't tell people he loves them, he shows it. As unpleasant as he can sometimes be, much to his own bewilderment, he is the sort of fellow who stands behind you when all the fun, nice friends have long since abandoned you.

Relationships: Daroneasa: For several years, Ras has a bit of a fixation on the War Leader who saved him from death. The two consider one another friends on the surface. Niuk: Niuk is Ras's best friend. The two are closer than brothers. Ataskra: Ras hates Ataskra with a passion, an emnity stemming from both Ataskra's occupation (a slaver) and Atty's generally condescending treatment of Ras. Enyale: Ras's childhood friend and eventually his wife. After marrying Enyale, Ras gives little thought to the war and less to Daroneasa. Dehla: Ras's step-daughter, whom he loves as if she were his own. Nav, Leena, Ovika, Tama: Ras and Enyale's other children.
