Pruning Tip's
Don't make the mistake of not pruning your bushes, trees and roses. Because this treatment could kill or ruin your plant for ever. It's true but most people are afraid to prune them of fear of doing it wrong and maybe killing there plant.
Pruning is best done a little every year. When buying bushes especially fast growing one's like forsythia don't worry if they are over grown and unattractive. Simply plant it in the ground in the spring and in the fall after it has established, if ther about 4' tall prune them back to 10" high. Cutting back a shrub make it branch out like a bush, rather than up like a tree also lets the middle of the plant get sufficient sun. When pruning any plant make sure and remove any broken or scarred branches, these are nothing but an invitation for insects and disease.
All of you flowering shrubs should be pruned after they have finished blooming, especially Rhododendrons and Azaleas because they start producing flower buds in the summer for next spring. Grafted Plants are actually 2 plants put together to make one. It is very important to prune these plants or they might become a different plant than what you bought. usually there is a not in the trunk of the plant was grafted. It is important to all ways trim every branch that forms by or under that notch, also prune any suckers coming out of the ground as well. Fall is usually the best time to do any severe pruning on anything.
