An
Emmy Award winner as Outstanding Drama Series (1996), “ER” is one of
the rare television programs that enjoys both critical acclaim and
blockbuster ratings success (as the top-rated drama for each of its
first six seasons). Best-selling author Michael Crichton (“Jurassic
Park”) created this hour-long drama, which centers on young medical
professionals in the emergency room of a Chicago hospital. Crichton is
also an executive producer, along with John Wells (“China Beach”)
and Jack Orman.
Now in its seventh season, “ER”
stars Anthony Edwards (“Top Gun”), Eriq La Salle (“The Human
Factor”), Noah Wyle (“Fail Safe”), Laura Innes (“Deep
Impact”), Alex Kingston (“Moll Flanders”), Goran Visnjic
(“Welcome to Sarajevo”), Maura Tierney (“NewsRadio”), Paul
McCrane (“Fame”), Michael Michele (“Homicide: Life on the
Street”), Erik Palladino (“Can’t Hardly Wait”) and Ming-Na (“Mulan”).
A winner of the prestigious George
Foster Peabody Award, the series has also earned 17 Emmy Awards and 93
nominations. Additionally, the cast has won four Screen Actors Guild
Awards for Outstanding Ensemble Performance in a Drama Series and the
People’s Choice Award as Favorite Television Dramatic Series every
year it has been on the air.
In the series, the overworked and
underpaid residents are the heroes of County General Hospital as they
make life-and-death decisions every day. The staff includes Dr. Mark
Greene (Edwards), a senior attending physician with a promising future
whose job cost him his marriage; Dr. Peter Benton (La Salle), an
intense, self-assured surgeon; the well-intentioned Dr. John Carter (Wyle),
a fourth-year resident in emergency medicine; Dr. Kerry Weaver (Innes),
a tough and determined chief of emergency medicine who often rubs her
colleagues the wrong way; Dr. Elizabeth Corday (Kingston), a dedicated
surgeon from Great Britain; Dr. Luka Kovac (Visnjic), an ER attending
physician who recently joined the staff at County; Abby Lockhart
(Tierney), a fourth-year medical student and former OB nurse; Dr. Robert
Romano (McCrane), the arrogant chief of staff; Dr. Cleo Finch (Michele),
an assertive third-year resident in emergency medicine and pediatrics;
Dr. Dave Malucci (Palladino), a gregarious third-year resident; and Dr.
Deb Chen (Ming-Na), a competitive third-year resident.
“ER” is a production of Constant c
Productions and Amblin Television in association with Warner Bros.
Television.
