What is a Doula?

A doula is a woman who helps other women to have the best birth experince they can have, this means it is my job to help you get the birth you've been dreaming of.  A doula provides emotional and physical support to a labouring woman, helping her to feel powerful and in control, as well as cared for and supported.  A doula is who you need her to be, when you need her to be there.

Services I Provide:

As a doula I encourage moms to contact me early in their pregnancy which allows more time to build a relationship, after all birth is intense, awe inspiring and emotional, you want to know the people who are there with you!  But it really doens't matter when you hire your doula, as long as an effort is made to get to know what you want out of your birth.  I meet a minimum of twice with my moms before their due date to talk about your pregnancy, your expectations, any concerns you may have or elements you want to be a part of your birth.  This is also a chance to get to know the other people who will be attending your birth (partner, mother, other children etc) as they are also an integral part of the birth experience.  I have no maximum amount of times I meet with a mom, we will arrange as many meetings as you need to meet your needs.  I am always available to you for phone consultations if a concern or question arises.  I am on call 24/7 for 2 weeks before and after your due date and will make every effort possible to be there if you go into labour ouside of this time period.  I will work with a back-up whom you will also get to meet incase for any reason I become unavailable (other birth, car accident, house burns dow..end of the world, you know just in case). During your labour I will come as soon as you want me and stay until you are ready for me to leave.  I provide aromatherapy, homeopathy, counter pressure, massage, knowledge of helpful positions, encouragement, support, photos if you want them as well. As with pre-natal I meet at least twice post-partum with my moms, again I am available more if you want or need it.  We will have an opportunity to talk about your birth, how things are going with the new baby, breastfeeding and more. I also have a lending library available to my clients with over 50 books on pregnancy, birth, parenting and health.
