Sonic & Knuckles was released on the Mega Drive (known as the Genesis in the USA) on 18th October 1994. Having destroyed the Death Egg and returned the Chaos Emeralds and Master Emerald to their rightful home on the Floating Island, Knuckles places them all in the Emerald Chamber. Energy from the Master Emerald boosts the power of the Chaos Emeralds and they change size and shape to become the Super Emeralds! But the Death Egg crash-lands on the Floating Island, and Robotnik is back on his quest to get the Emeralds... Knuckles still believes that Sonic is the one after the Super Emeralds. Sonic must travel through more of the Floating Island and rescue the Super Emeralds from Robotnik, whilst trying to avoid the Badniks that Robotnik has again created, and the traps and tricks of Knuckles the Echidna! The game is essentially the same as Sonic 3 but with different zones. However, the best feature here is that you can play as Knuckles the Echidna and reach different places to the ones that Sonic can! Furthermore, you can open the top of the Sonic & Knuckles game cartridge and plug in Sonic 3 to play as Knuckles on Sonic 3, or plug in Sonic 2 to play as Knuckles on Sonic 2! In the Mega Drive version of the game there are eight zones (although not all characters play all zones), and each zone has two acts. The eight zones are: Mushroom Hill Flying Battery Sandopolis Lava Reef Hidden Palace Sky Sanctuary Death Egg Doomsday Again, like Sonic 3 and unlike Sonic 1 and 2, the Death Egg is actually a zone in itself, with a boss at the end (you fight this boss if you are Tails, or as Sonic if you haven't got all the Chaos Emeralds). Sonic & Knuckles is a fantastic continuation of the Sonic 3 story! |
