Pencil Mediums

Home: Mediums
There are many different mediums that an artist can use for his art. In this website, we are discussing pencil mediums. Here is a list and description of the most common pencils used:

Number 2 Pencils are Easy to Use

Although most skilled artists don't use this pencil, most of the common doodlers do because it is readily available for use. The majority of people draw with this pencil because it is easy to use. There is no switching between numerous pencils like the professionals.

Developing skills with number 2 pencils

Even though it is also good for outlining or sketching, it is also a good tool for people who want to advance their skills with shading. The range of grays is not very large at all which can lead to frustration when trying to achieve a certain effect. This is why it is good to use number two pencils only when utilizing it to further your own skills in drawing.

Graphite

Nearly all pencil artists use graphite pencils. There are so many different variations in the softness and the grays that most people, when they become used to them, grow to love them. Some dark graphite pencils, when used, cannot be erased even with the best erasers. This can be a good thing or a bad thing. It just depends on the artist.

Charcoal

These pencils are used quite a bit because of their versatility. They tend to be really messy, so be sure to keep a rag handy when using them. They smudge very easily, so it's kind of hard to get it out of your clothes too, but they do wonders with shading.

Colored Pencils

Colored pencils enhance both cartoons and realistic pictures. However, most colored pencil drawings are composed of cartoons. Some people who have mastered realism venture out into the world of color to discover that it can really add spice to their drawings.
