“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.?#060;/font>

Gone cruising ...

After boating in the Boston area for several years in the late 1990s, we were hooked on the lifestyle and dreamt of becoming full-time cruisers. It happened, in December 2000. We quit our jobs and bought a Jefferson 37' powerboat in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We named her Mai Thai. Taking  delivery of Mai Thai the following March, we had every intention of bringing her back to our home port of Rhode Island. Some people navigate this 1500-miles trip in 15-20 days, but why hurry back to frigid New England? So we decided to take it easy and stop to "smell the flowers" along the way. Our timing couldn't have been more perfect, as spring was in the air at every port of call. In Savannah, Georgia, azaleas were in full bloom. Fragrant jasmine floated in the air as we walked by the gardens of antebellum homes in Beaufort, South Carolina. We were mesmerized by the beauty of Charleston and its architecture. And in Beaufort, North Carolina, stunning sunsets took our breath away. This was our first time in the south, and we were discovering that cruising is an excellent way to travel and explore America without traffic or schedule.

A condensed version of the Bahamas page was published in the April 2007 issue of Latitudes and Attitudes, a fun cruising magazine. Perhaps there is a future career for this aspiring writer...

This website is our journal and also an opportunity to let our friends and family follow our journey. We've organized our cruising adventures by the year and the ports we've visited.  Space permitting, we will try to publish our pictures here as well. Feel free to comment as we need your feedback to make this more interesting!
