Ashitaka was the "prince" of a small tribe, that one day was threatened by a Demon-Boar. Ashitaka killed the demon but before he could shoot his arrow a part of the demon touched his arm, infecting it. Now because of it the infection will eventually spread and kill him; his village members must consider him dead according to their laws, so Ashitaka goes in search of a cure, and on the way runs into a settlement called Iron Town named for its iron production. While there he finds out that many imports from the rice fields have been slowed due to the Wolf Gods in the forest where they mine the iron. Ashitaka talks to some of the workers there and they said that the wolf gods probably attack them because they have to tear down the trees to retrieve the iron in the soil. They also said that Lady Eboshi, the "owner" of Iron Town helped to drive off many of the animals so the humans could live in peace (on the right). Ashitaka gets mad and demands to know from her what she's trying to accomplish with this act, kill the forest and create more problems? She admits that she was the one who shot the boar so he turned into a demon. Later that night a girl riding a gigantic wolf breaks into the town, wanting to kill Lady Eboshi for her bad deeds. |
It turns out that that girl is Princess Mononoke, or the wolf girl. Ashitaka tries to quell their fighting but gets shot with one of Eboshi's "guns". Knocking the wolf girl out, half dead, he carries her out of the town. About a mile out of the town, Ashitaka finally collapses off his ride (a red elk) and fall to the ground, bleeding half to death. The Princess of the Forest, or San, jumps off and just barely stops one of the wolf gods from biring his head off. She asked him why he stopped her from killing Eboshi and he simply replies, "humans and animals should live in peace. You're very pretty, has anyone ever told you that?" She gasps but was still determined to save him, so she took him to the Forest God for healing. The God saved Ashitaka from death of the shot but didn't cure the infection. Ashitaka wanted to leave the next day but returned when he heard that the clan of boars (2,000+) were declaring war against the humans of Iron Town. Ashitaka goes to investigate only to find that San was involved too! He races to find Lady Eboshi but see's that the Samari's that attacked the village before had attacked Iron Town! He goes in search of Lady Eboshi to tell her of the raid on her town but winds up having Yakul (his elk) injured so he has one of the Wolf Gods take him to San, for he was certain that would be where Lady Eboshi would be. The Boar God was injured and blind, so San was helping him to the Forest God, but wasn't fast enough for Lady Hiboshe's men had killed him and he turned into a demon while Lady Eboshi was after the head of the Forest God. Meanwhile, San was trying to save the boar from dying, but it was too late, and she got obsorbed into the demon too. Her mother the Mother of the Wolf Gods was furious that her daughter was eaten up and got her out, but died herself my the wish of the Forest God. And that's when Lady Eboshi fired twice with her improved rifle, blowing off the Forest God's head. Now he himself will remain a demon-like monster unless he gets his head back, will he, or will the humans and forest be destroyed by its own protector? |
