Greek and Roman Mythology and History Links
Almost everyone has been influenced by the history and the mythology of the Greco-Roman world. The English Patient includes Herodotus' story of  the Lydian king Candaules' showing off his wife's beauty to his lieutenant Gyges...names changed of course. Many children are told stories of heroes from antiquity such as Hercules and of morality such as Icarus, the boy who flew too close to the sun. In school, many study the Olympian Gods and their significance. Numerous movies have been made throughout the history of film such as Jason and the Argonauts and Clash of the Titans. Even our modern languages are influenced by Latin and Greek. Medicine and Science relies on the knowledge of these languages to heal and save. Lawyers use Latin in everyday cases. Others use Latin phrases, such as ad lib, et cetera, and semper fi, without even knowing that they are not using English. Our two state mottos are in Latin...Animis opibusque parati and Dum spiro, spero. Below you will find links to interesting sites about The Greco-Roman world.
