What is project 1000?Project 1000 gathers sports, educational and health equipments from donors like you and distribute them to unfortunate people in Ethiopia. For example some people have donated money, 100 soccer balls or books. Project 1000 focuses in three important areas: 1. Health 2. Education 3. Sport
From 1998 to the present, The Ethiopian Youth
Development distributed 1040 soccer balls, 32 team sets of uniforms, soccer
shoes and other soccer related equipments through all regions of Ethiopia. We
have exceeded our initial target of 1000 soccer balls. Thanks to your support.
We also found out that we needed much more than we anticipated at first. The
Under-20 Ethiopian National Football Team used two sets of specially ordered
uniforms during U-20 African Nations Cup held in Addis Ababa and later for the
World Cup in Argentina. This was the first time Ethiopia was qualified in the
World Cup competition. We are proud to see the Ethiopian National Team in the
World Cup competition. It is one of our major goals. Pictures
In the area of education, we are making progress. We
have collected mathematics, science and English books. We have over 50 computers
& school supplies. We have good communication with some schools. We also
have contacts in France a very good friend is willing to donate x-number of
computers. At present we are working on a Non Governmental Organization NGO
status from the Ethiopian government. Once we earn NGO status. It will allow us
legal ground as well as acceptance by local, International Organizations and the
World community at large.
Our contact in Ethiopia with the health and community
organization is very important in getting first hand information. Outside of
Ethiopia we have acquired educational videos and useful materials from World
Health Organization. We are communicating with World Bank, UNICEF and UNAIDS.
Everyday is a step forward in our effort to make a difference in life. Project 2000 focuses on raising money from events and spend the it on projects in Ethiopia as aids and drug prevention or youth developments. As an example in year 2000, we have organized an Ethiopian soccer team from USA and traveled to Ethiopia to play friendly games with Ethiopian national and premier teams like St. George. Money that was obtained from tickets to the stadium was spent on EYD projects. |
