OTHER LIFE EXPERIENCES, TRAINING, & JOBS

I was born on March 1, 1957, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, USA, in the Deaconess Hospital. At the time of my birth my Dad was pastoring a Nazarene Mission in OKC. In 1959, Dad joined The (now United) Methodist Church, Louisiana Annual Conference. Both of my GrandFathers were also Pastors. With a history of Christian Ministers on both sides of my Family linage. I graduated from Ruston High School, Ruston, La., May 18, 1976. RELIGION--> The call of God to full-time ministry has been upon me most of my life. Being a pastor's son, I had a hard time desiring this; so, I did not answer and accept that call until March 30, 1974. Even though I belong to the Wesleyan Holiness Methodist-Arminian doctrinal family, you will find that the following training, courses, and life experiences are interdenominational. February through mid-March of 1974, I taught for six Sundays our high school and college class, (at Wisner, La., United Methodist Church), on the subject of satanism, witchcraft, and demonism. Summer 1974, at Assemblies of God teen camp, in Woodward, La.; I took the class for those called by God into the ministry of The Gospel. While I was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Ruston, La., I held the following positions and took the training stated. Church School department secretary-treasurer, Summer 1978-12/31/86. Member (at-large) of the Administrative Board, Jan.,1981-Dec., 1983. I worked with the Children's Church; I gave the wermon twice and was responsible for setting up and taking down the worship and altar area; I do not remember the dates. I worked four times with Vacation Church School, ('81, '82, '83, '84); twice as leader of and once as assistant in recreational, and once as assistant with the 2&3 year olds. I also helped some with the summer children's program called "Wonderful Wednesday". I took United Methodist Local Pastor's School, 1979-- ten days of study, including the following subjects: Theology, Doctrine, Bible Survey, Church History, Pastoral Counseling and Care, Church Music, Conducting Worship and Special Services, Preparing and Preaching a Sermon, Church Organization and Administration, Christian Education, & Call to Ministry. I took Un. Meth. Local Church Lay Speaker's Training, 1985; approved by G.U.M.C., Feb., 1986. For personal reasons I left the United Methodist denomination at the end of 1986. I have had a number of experiences of one-on-one (telephone, street, and door-to-door) witnessing, including: G.U.M.C.'s. Youth Crusade and Witness Blitz; Ruston, August, 1976. "Here's Life America"-"I Found It" Campaign; including, "Way of Life Discipleship and Evangelism Training"; Ruston, November, 1976. Counselor for David Wilkerson Cursade, Ruston, November, 6&7, 1980. I took the following courses through the stated organization, one week in length. Chi Alpha (XA-the Assemblies of God college ministry) SALT (Student Activist Leadership Training) Conferences: South Central, May, 1977, Counseling class; 2nd National, December, '77, Ministry class (Career Elective); S.C., May, '78, Baby Greek-I class. I took the "Discipling Ministry Seminar"; taught by Chuck Miller of "Barnabas, Inc."; 2&1/2 days, 12/1-3/1977, in Dallas, Texas. August, 1985-October, 1986--I led the third Sunday service at Maryland Plaza, Ruston, La.'s retirement homes' community center; I gave the sermon most of the time. On 2/8/1987--I took "The Billy Graham Christian Life & Witness Course"; at First Assembly of God Church, in Ruston, La. Cushing, OK, Church of the Nazarene: I worked with V.B.S. 1991, '92, '93, '94, '95, '96; 5 times with recreation and 1 time as treasure. I worked with the bus ministry from August, '92, until it was no longer used. I have been a member of "Promise Keepers", "Men Of Integrity", since 6/20/1994. MILITARY EXPERIENCE--> When I was in the Navy, before I had to go into the physical fitness company, for not meeting swimming qualifications; in my original cpmpany (#077): our Company Commander had chosen me to be our Company's- Recruit Protestant Religious Petty Officer (Recruit Third Class Petty Officer). The reason for my discharge was given as "Personality Disorder"; which I later discovered is a catch-all category for people who do not seem to be adjusting to military life. Two days after I got home I came down sick with 104.5'F temperature, what turned out to be German Measles. I was stationed at Great Lakes, NRTC, Chicago, IL. During my two years (six quarters) as an Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Cadet, I held the following positions-Squad Leader, Guidon Bearer, Squadron Administrative Officer, Squadron First Sergeant, and Recruiting Staff. September, '80-February, '81, Wilson's cafeteria, as a food server. August, 1985-October, '89--I worked part-time doing yard and garden work for a friend. This involved learning various things concerning planting and taking care of plants. One major piece of equipment used as part of this job was a "Honda-ATC-Big Red" with a large liquid tank attached for spraying various plant care chemicals. I helped with other odd jobs during cold weather. I have Certificates from the following: Peer Counseling Seminar*; 10-25&26-88, & 1-27-89. Assertiveness-Motovation Seminar; 6-16-89. I took a little bit of Spanish; through The Gospel, Inc. of Ruston, La.; taught by a former missionary to Columbia, South America. I have had the following training-experience in Computer Word Processing: Commodore 64> Paperclip and Speedscript, (this is the one that I have used the most on C-64); IBM/PC Write. Summers 1993, '94, & '95, I had two lawn mowing jobs in Cushing, OK: one was property belonging to a relative; the other was for Fechner Pump & Supply. June 13-July 16, 1996, Southern Nazarene University, Bethany, Oklahoma--I attempted coursework toward a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership; attended introductory meeting and second class session in Module 1, subject was interpersonal communication. The original version of this Portfolio was done as part of the coursework for that degree program. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT--> To begin with I would like to list my extra curricular activities during high school. During my freshman year-I was class secretary; also, I was on school basketball and track teams. I played on Grace U.M.C's. boy's basketball team, (Ruston), Winter '74-'75. I was a founding member of the Ruston-Lincoln Parish (La.) Chapter of the Young Republicans Club; founded December, 1989; I was a member until November 16, 1990. Because of mentally ill persons in my family, I have been a member of the Cushing, OK, chapter of the Alliance for the Mentally Ill (CAMI). OTHER PERSONAL EXPERIENCES--> Growing up in a family of musicians, music has always been a part of my life. During my early years of life, in the instrumental area of music, I tried to learn various different instruments. Finally, my sixth grade year, (school year '69-'70), I started on the snare drum and since then I have progressed and now I play various differnt percussion and rythym instruments. The next school year, ('70-'71), I was finally able to carry a tune in vocal music and Spring of '71 I sang my first solo in public, at church; the song "Mansion Over The Hilltop". The Lord has inspired me to put a number of Scripture passages to music and several songs with words and music my own. I have also done much writing on Biblical, Spiritual, Doctrinal, and Theological subjects. More information available if desired. Most of my shorter writings will be found on the JESUS Our LIGHTHOUSE Outreach Ministries HomePage, listed at the beginning of this HomePage. Some of my Poems are found on Web Page listed at the end of this site. Through various situations in life, I have had experience operating different types of sound and lighting equipment. Early in life I became interested in flags and related items and have become an amateur vexillolgist--a studier of flags and heraldry; their history, meening, purpose, and use. I have designed a number of flags over the years; the early ones were just boyhood things for a club some friends and I had for awhile. The more recent designs are for JESUS Our LIGHTHOUSE Outreach Ministries; which have not yet been put into cloth, reason being lack of finances for this.
