Osternon
Osternon is a young nation.  It resides in a mountain valley almost one hundred leagues from east to west and north to south.  The mountains provide a natural barrier on all sides but the north.  But Osternon is allied with the good nation of Dunador, that way.  To the south is the towering Borador Mounatins.  Osternon has cool relations with the Dwarves of Boaradin.  There is no pass and there has been no commerce or activity with the people on the other side of the mountains, The Otain Empire.

The capitol is Ormax, a large city of close to 13,000 citizens.  There are several smaller towns which govern themselves but pay local taxes to Ormax.  The sheltered town of Barovia has seen much in the way of politics and intrigue over the years.

In the year 580, Osternon was attacked by the
Otain Empire from the east.  The Emperor Otain, spent forty years tunnelling under the Borador Mountains to attack the good nations of the west.  Otain was killed in that war by the Elves of Prophecy.

It declared itself a nation in the year
391, almost 250 years before the Orcish Wars began.  The first King was elected by the people, rather than by birth.  His name was Orimaxes and his people loved him and followed him to enlightenment and knowledge.

There has been an unbroken line of hereditary Kings through to Orimaxes VI.  In the year 640, the line was broken, however when Orimaxes VI and his wife Celeste, were killed in a fire.  There was no heir.  The Council of Ormax took it upon itself to replace the throne.  Within a month, the Council, with Fellonious Allsbane at its head, put Jelial Otain, the son of the Emperor Otain on the thone.  Jelial was able to expand his Empire from east to west without conquering.  And Osternon became part of The Otain Empire.
