Chapter One The alarm clocked screamed into Allissa's ear interupting a perfect dream. She rolled over with a groan and slapped the clock, "Oh." her sleepy hands landed on her dog who occupied the empty space in her queen size bed, "Pugy I don't want to get up." she yawned to her dog. The Pug just lay as lazy as Allissa on his side of the bed, not even looking up at his owner. After a few minutes of trying to wake up, Allissa finally crawled out of bed. Her long brown hair was in pig tails down her back as she crawled into the bathroom. A hot shower would wake her up, and it did as she allowed the hot water roll down her back and massaged the shampoo and into her scalp. The coffee shop greeted her with the same old welcome it had for the past two years, and Allissa had a feeling things would never change. She held a book to her chest as she walked behind the counter and prepared herself for the days work. She watched as her co-workers came in the door, but none of them smiled at her or greeted her. They all seemed to look over her, not noticing that she was apart of this world too. It didn't bother Allissa anymore though, she was used to it. It had been that way in school, and it would be that way for the rest of her life. She had accepted this fact. "Here's you're moccha sir, can I get you anything else?" Allissa handed the old man his moccha and smiled. "No, thanks." the man took his moccha and walked away. The next customer took Allissa's breath as soon as her eyes set on him. For a second she was speechless, but then she came to her senses and started his order, "Can I help you sir?" she couldn't get over his eyes, and those lips of his. He had the most perfect hair too. The young man stopped talking to the other man he was with and looked at her with a smile, "Yes you can." he said, "I think I want a cheese danish, and a good cup of hot coffee." he smiled, "and my brother here wants..." he left the rest of the sentence for his brother to fill in. The brother stepped up closer to the counter, "I want a triple thick brownie and a hot cup of coffee." the brother was gorgeous too, but the other man was just gorgeous. "Are you two on the same check then I suppose?" Allissa asked. She felt so stupid, with her grammar. Suppose? What kind of word was that! "Yes ma'am we sure are." Hayden replied. He looked at his brother as he pulled his wallet from his back pocket, "Did you want anything else?" "No, that's fine." the brother replied. Allissa told them their total, and made their drinks and a got their food. She could hear the man talking to his brother. She guessed they hadn't seen each other in a couple of weeks by their conversation. Neither one of them seemed to be looking at her, but she was used to that. She smiled as she gave them their orders, "You two have a good day." she said. The man caught her eye, "You too." he smiled and then continued to a tall circular table near the minature library the coffee shop provided. She watched them drink their moccha and coffee and eat their food. She wished she wasn't who she was. Quiet...and unsure of herself. She wanted to be loud and friendly. But she wasn't. "Allissa, could you go straighten up some of those books on the shelf over there? They seemed to be out of order." Allissa's manager, Harper was a tall man with a very long nose. His hair was still jet black, but Allissa guessed him to be in his sixties. "Yes, sir." Allissa said, and started toward the shelf where her handsome man and his brother were sitting. Of coarse she knew neither man would be intrested in her, and if they would be it would be some sort of game. Something to make her look stupid. She began moving books to their original places as she listened intently to the conversation the two men were holding. "Hayden, you've got to do something about this. You can't have her running your life like that." the brother said revealing to Allissa now the name of her handsome man. "Every time I try to talk to her, she always dismisses the subject and starts something else. It's impossible to talk to Jaynie." Hayden sighed, "I find myself dreading to go home." Allissa couldn't believe a handsome man like this was having problems with a girl. She wondered if whoever she was going to marry was going to dread coming home at night to see her. "Don't let her change the subject next time, just take care of it and be done with her." "Tove, " Hayden now revealed the brothers name, "it's not that easy." "No, you're just hard headed." Tove said half annoyed half concerned. "I'm not hard headed." Hayden argued, "If you could see into her eyes Tove, I can't resist her eyes. They call out for refuge every time I look into them. When I kiss her they smile, and when I pull away they cry. I don't have the heart to break up with this girl." "You're not happy, and you've got to be happy. Stop trying to please her, and do what's best for you." "I wish, that I could just meet my girl at a coffee shop or something. Somewhere like this place. You know like you see in movies." Hayden sipped his drink as Allissa's heart melt. She knew that this man would never be intrested in her so she wasn't sure why her heart was melting. "Unfortunatley love isn't as easy as movie's make them." Tove said, "You should know that." "Yeah, I know it." Hayden and Tove sat quiet for a second. Allissa finished organizing the books and turned around to the two brothers. "Would you like me to get you two anything else?" Allissa was suprised that she had asked this question. They weren't supposed to waitress in the coffee shop. Hayden looked up at her with his stunning eyes and smiled, "I think I'm fine, how about you Tove." "Yeah, yeah I'm perfect thanks." Tove smiled too, "I didn't think this coffee shop had waitresses." "Oh, no we don't. I was just...I was just rearranging these books over here, and...well I thought I'd ask you two if you needed anything before I go back to the counter." Allissa was cursing herself. That was so stupid. She had no idea why she had asked them that question, but it wasn't to be their waitress. "You have beautiful eyes." Hayden complimented. Allissa felt herself blush and for a moment she took thanks in this compliment but then she felt that he didn't need to be telling her this because he already had a girl. Red faced she turned sharply and stormed back to the counter. She wasn't exactly sure why she had gotten angry. But she was angry and would remain that way. She refused herself to look in the direction of the two brothers, but on their way out Hayden stopped by the counter, "Listen, "he paused as he scanned her for a name tag finally find a little strip of black stuck to a pin with white letters that spelled her name, "Allissa, I didn't mean to offend you if I did." he said apologetically, "I'm sorry." "You didn't offend me." Allissa said still angry, "I just think that if you...well-" she didn't want him to know that she had been listening to their conversation, "You should know me first." she said. That was stupid, she thought to herself. "Perhaps we can get to know each other." Hayden said with a smile, "I loved the moccha I may be back in the morning for some more." Allissa didn't want to see him tomorrow, or ever again. She wasn't sure why. Maybe it was because she knew she had made a fool of herself, "Perhaps." she replied sharply. He seemed to frown but then a smile took over, "Good day." he said and then he joined his brother and walked out of the coffee shop. |
