Safty in Herbs
Many plants are highly toxic and can be dangerous. Before herbs are used as a treatment, know what you are doing and the history of the herb you are using.
Plants can look very similar and common names are ofter misleading-there is a danger of mistaking one herb for another. Before collecting a herb, ensure that it has been correctly identified and do not interchange similar species for a particular purpose, as they may not have the same properties. It is also essential to use only the part specified, usually the leaf, stem, flower or seed and occasionally root.
Some plants classified as herbs are highly poisonous in any form or quantity. It should be remembered that many apparently benevolent substances, for example vitamins, can be toxic if taken to excess. This principle applies to herbs too and includes the common culinary ones, such as thyme or rosemary. It is difficult to ingest a handful amount in the form of the whole leaf, and most are totally safe if used, fresh or dried, in the quantities recommended in recipes. However, in the form of essential oils, which are concentrated extracts of the active principle, they can be highly toxic.
There are a number of books out there on the circuit for you to learn the things you need to know about the herb world.
I have been learning about herbs for 11 years now. This is all self learned. I got into herbs as my faith with Jesus grow stronger. I feel that God put every plant on this earth for a reason. And he also tells us that there is a cure for all illnesses. And I was so tired of the Doctors giving my children penicillin every time I took them in. I would ask, What do they have? and all I would get from them is I'm not sure. And they would give them the drug anyways. I walked out of that Doctors office Very upset. I thought to myself there has to be another way. I spent alot of time in bookstores where I used to live and I came acrossed a book called Back to Eden by Jethro Kloss. This book opened my eyes. I had no idea of all the cures that I could take care of on my own with out spending $100.00's at the doctors office. Now please don't get me wrong, I believe that Doctors are very important to us all. God gave them and us the brains to learn. And the need to help others. But if I can do it myself than I'm going to do so. We have been so conditioned to let the other man do our deeds for us. (That is lazy in my book).
