My 1999 trip to Cancun was the week of February 6 - 13. The weather this year was excellent. It was sunny, in the 80's with a slight breeze all week (except for the day we went home, but we were heading home so who cares!).

I was surprised to see a new terminal at the airport when we arrived Saturday the 6th (apparently a new wing specifically for charters), we went through immigrations fairly quickly and proceeded to our Royal Tours bus for transfer to our hotel. We had the customary "bienvenidos" Cerveza in hand and on the bus by 11:15 a.m. I felt like I was home again. We proceeded to the Beach Palace, room not ready until three, and so we headed to the pool. Hung out, went swimming in the ocean which was perfectly blue and warm although a little rough. Began my exploration of the hotel..... hmm, smallish pool, dive tank with instructor, typical swim up bar, great beach. I can handle it. Start talking to everyone I can to get some inside info and everyone seems happy with the Beach Palace. I on the other hand, am still fixated on the Moon Palace, another, newer, Palace resort that I'd read alot about. Go to check in and inquire about transferring to the Moon, but my request is denied. Oh well, on vacation, this place is certainly sufficient. Went to our room which was really nice!! Ocean front with balcony, living area, two double beds, and a nice marble bathroom. Unpacked and told my travel mate, Tina, that I'd meet her in the lobby bar.

At the lobby bar I again strike up a conversation (to get the scoop) with a couple who are tan, and obviously not newcomers. They are very nice, but tell me that they are just visiting the Beach Palace, that they are actually staying at the Moon Palace!!! Oh dear, and how is that I ask? Lovely, gorgeous, couldn't be happier.... hey, this place is kind of small they say. O-kay, that does it, I'm outa here. By now Tina has arrived and I announce to her that I am getting us transferred to 'da Moon! Within 5 minutes I return, to a flabbergasted Tina, with a transfer voucher to Moon Palace! Yee ha, this is gonna be fun! Upstairs to pack, bellboy arrives to take our luggage back to the lobby and into a Mexican taxi for transport to Moon Palace.
