TEEN PEOPLE
The WB, Monday, 9 p.m.
THE PREMISE: After his wife's untimely death, a high-powered Manhattan surgeon relocates his son and daughter to the sleepy town of Everwood, Colo. Let's just say the kids aren't thrilled with the move.
WHY IT'S DIFFERENT: Unlike the schmaltzy high jinks (admit it!) of 7th Heaven, this drama realistically portrays family conflict. One pressure point: Ephram, played by 19-year-old Gregory Smith (above), harbors big-time resentment because Dad (Treat Williams) has spent more time with his patients than with him.
TRUE TO LIFE: "I tell people I had a lot of experience to draw on," says Gregory jokingly of his own relationship with his parents. "I think a lot of kids will be able to relate to Ephram."
BEHIND THE SCENES: Although the Everwood pilot was shot in Canada, the production relocated to Salt Lake City once the series got the green light. "[Before,] nobody wanted to visit me," says Gregory, a Vancouver native. "[Now] I've got about 20 people who want to stay with me for the Sundance Film Festival."
THE BOTTOM LINE: You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll program your TiVo for it.
