E: I heard you first began experimenting with laptop noise while doing art for the Merzbox. Is that true?

M: No, I used a desktop for the Merzbox art.

E: But thats when you first started with computers for noise?

M: Yes.

E: Who is Jenny Akita? Is she your wife?

M: Yes.

E: What software do you use for recording and performing?

M: Pro Tools and Spot(?)

E: For both?

M: Yes.

E: Will/do you do any more analogue noise?

M: Yes, I still use analogue for recording.

E: Pedals?

M: No, no more pedals.

E: What has been the reaction to the switch? Have you noticed any backlash?

M: Maybe. I know noise people don't like computers.

Drunk Passerby: Hey, Merzbow, I love you man! I met you at that show in Victoria B.C., remember? Remember you were talking about how you saw those otters in the bay? Then you did that cd about otters! That was awesome!

(Masami nods politely / we head outside for a more quite location / Masami brings his drink)

Security Guard #1: Hey man, you better take that drink back inside.

M: What?

Security Guard #2: You can't have that outside.

E: Hey man, its cool, this is Merzbow.

(neither guard seems to know who Merzbow is)

Security Guard #2: What's in the drink?

(it appears to be a rye & ginger ale)

E to M: Is it beer?

M: No.

(security guards shrug their shoulders and walk away / interview resumes)

E: Releases that say they were recorded "in the bedroom", were they actually recorded in your bedroom? In your bed? In your PJs?

M: Yes.

E: What are your terms for releasing a cd or doing a show?

M: No specific terms, just contact me and we'll have a discussion.

(at this point Masami gets suspicious...)

M: What is this interview for? A news letter?

E: No, its an internet message board. I believe someone named Robert emailed you about it one time?

M: OK.

E: Any more Canadian or North American shows in the near future?

M: No, Toronto will be the last for a while.

E: I heard you are into black metal, could you name some of your favourite bands?

M: Yes, Norwegian.

E: Darkthrone?

M: Norwegian. Immortal, Enslaved, Gorgoroth, Ulver.

E: Do you like jazz, specifically Weather Report?

M: Yes, I like jazz. (laughs) No not, Weather Report.

E: Are there any plans to make an official Merzbow website?

M: Yes, hopefully soon. There are other pages that I let people list my releases, but I don't want to distribute anymore. I want a page in the near future. I don't like people talking about me on messageboards.

E: You don't like people selling/distributing your releases on messageboards?

M: No, I don't like people talking about me on messageboards at all.

E: Thank you very much.
