Jeanette is an exotic dancer (wink wink, nudge, nudge). Her boyfriend Pierre is a sailor. He wants her to quit the business. She refuses so he tells her it is over and heads for his ship where he hopefullly will catch the clap in some exotic port. As she rushes after this fool,Jeanette gets in a horrendous car accident complete with flames. As a result of this accident Jeanette lies in the hospital with some scarring on her face and doesn't want to live, especially without that goober Pierre. The great plastic surgeon Alberto Levin learns of her plight and thinks her can help with his Derma-25.He sends his assistant Monique to fetch the young lady.Levin takes one look at Jeanette and his eyes pop out a la a Warner Brothers cartoon. Monique is bummed. She has secretly been in love with the doctor for some time. The mute handyman Sacha is sympathetic to her plight. The doctor's attempt to restore Jeanette's face seems successful. However she gets that itching and burning sensation. The doc quickly drugs her as he sees that the scarring is returning to her face.He needs glands from a woman. So the creep takes Monique's! Once again the operation seems to work. But disaster soon follows. Eventually the doctor has to steal glands to perpetuate the cure for his patient.Since we had to have the title monster in the film he has a machine that changes him into a crusty faced monster. He goes around whacking various women for their glands. Speaking of whacking,Pierre hasn't had any action since he called it quits with Jeanette. He manages to finally track her down but the doctor intervenes. Then we have a big showdown with Pierre, Jeanette, Sacha, Dr Levin and the cops. This film is a great big circle of unrequited love.Sacha loves Monique. Monique loves Dr Levin.Dr Levin loves Jeanette.Jeanette loves Pierre. Pierre loves...Pierre.Heck maybe Sacha has a thing for Dr Levin too. When I was 12 I could tell Monique was a hot babe and not shallow like Jeanette. That opinion hasn't changed 30 years later. Anyway this movie is a guilty pleasure. It really doesn't make sense on a horror level but as far as the twisting path of human love, ah ,there lies the tale!Or else I'm just full of $#%t.Always fun to watch but I'm not sure I could sit through the 87 minute cut (which I've never seen). |
